What I wore to Lovebox

So festival season is in full swing, and I went to Lovebox on Sunday. I finally had an excuse to wear my Givenchy Rottweiler tshirt, here is what I wore it with (apologies to anyone on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook who may have seen the picture already):

What I wore to Lovebox 2012

Sunglasses: Mykita
Tshirt: Givenchy
Shorts: Burberry Brit
Wellies: Hunter

For me festival wear is about two things; practicality, and fun. Statement tshirts, and sunglasses are spot on. Kneevage is the new cleavage, or so I have decided (saying that I saw a lot of horrendous sights in far too short short shorts; which is really not a thing)! I actually bought the hood that attaches to my Barbour waxed jacket in case it rained – however I did not even need it in the end.

It was a very good thing that the sun was out so I could wear my Mykita sunglasses – I had a rather late night before Lovebox (it’s funny how another bottle of champagne at nearly 2.30 am seems perfectly reasonable at the time). I was originally going to wear my Tom Ford sunglasses however I decided that my Mykita are much more fun to wear for the occasion.

The Burberry Brit shorts are one of the pairs I bought for when I went to Spain earlier this year. I opted for my Hunter wellies in case it was muddy – fortunately that was not the case; however I would rather be safe than ruin a pair of beloved shoes.

What do you wear to festivals? Are you going to any this year?

Wet Weather

Days like this make we want to stay in the warm confines of my Egyptian cotton bed sheets, if you do not know what I am on about then the chances are you are not in England right now. It is not cold by any means, it is just miserable, and wet. I am no duck; I hate getting wet. To me there is little worse than getting drenched, then spending the rest of your day smelling like wet dog.

Today I am wrapped up in my Barbour classic Bedale waxed jacket, I was half tempted to wear my Hunter wellingtons to work – I resisted. I sort of wish I did wear them seeing as I have practically played leap frog jumping over puddles.

When the weather is like this, and the six day forecast on my iPhone is saying it will continue, other than hibernation, or a good hot chocolate, there are two things I can do to cheer myself (and no not eating an entire box of champagne truffles – did that the other night…):

One. Dribble over Burberry Prorsum animal umbrellas from the Autumn Winter 2012 show. It’s all about the duck umbrella! Not that it would be much use to me; I habitually lose umbrellas. Currently I have an inexpensive black Harrods one seeing as it is not much of a monetary loss if I lose it. I am sure if I had a Burberry Prorsum animal one I would take more care ;) .

Two. Dribble over potential summer purchases naturally. What better way to pass time when it’s wet than preparing yourself for the sun by preparing the perfect summer wardrobe.

Keeping it short

With summer fast approaching, and the hot weather lately (England please do keep it up!). I have been scouring high, and low for the perfect shorts. I have only recently started wearing shorts in England, I used to be rather self conscious about wearing shorts, and only used to wear them abroad, or only at home. I also used to agree with Tom Ford that shorts should not be allowed in the city, but now I completely back track on that – why limit yourself?! There are very few things that I do not agree with the genius on, but that is definitely now one of them.

I bought myself two Burberry Brit pairs (apologies they are all creased in the picture – I had to pull them from my washing pile to photograph them!); one from Mr. Porter, and the other from Matches – both feature in the ‘Classic Collection‘ below. Oh, and I am loving the Matches box I got this time around:

A Weekend In The City

This afternoon whilst having a nostalgic listen through my iTunes I was reminded of one of my favourite albums; Bloc Party’s A Weekend In The City (ah 2007 how I miss you!). I decided to take the album name in a more literal sense, and decided to do an edit showing various looks I would wear for ‘a weekend in the city’. The ‘city’ to me is London of course, and Bloc Party being a British band it only makes sense.

five: Reiss twin zip briefcase – £195 at Reiss

So I leave you with a song off Bloc Party’s “A Weekend In The City”; Song For Clay (Disappear Here), which is inspired by the character Clay in Bret Easton Ellis’ Less Than Zero. Bret Easton Ellis is one of my favourite authors, and Less Than Zero is one of my favourite novellas:

Burberry Prorsum micro cord

One dreary day at the start of the week whilst at work praying for the weekend to come sooner, and browsing Matches (in my defence it was lunch time, well err I was eating – that counts right?), I was having a mooch at what they had left in their sale when I came across a dapper Burberry Prorsum shirt. Queue a few days later, and hello lovely courier delivery of said shirt (speaking of which check out the Matches box I got this time!). I actually wore it this afternoon; we had to take my cat Prada to vets – she got dribble, and cat snot all over the Burberry London shirt I was wearing so I had to change before heading back to work. Prada (I named her years ago; don’t laugh!) has cat flu, the vet gave her an injection, and prescribed her a course of antibiotics for a few days – she now appears to be on the mend thank goodness.

Matches Fashion box

I have commented before how I am rather fond of the Matches packaging. The boxes are designed by the artist Ann Muir, and I am building up quite a collection of them. I reuse them for extra storage in my wardrobe – it would be a waste not to.

Burberry Prorsum micro cord shirt

Back of Burberry Prorsum micro cord shirt

As you can see I am tired (long day!), I need to do my hair, and I have not quite mastered this posing malarky (bring back summer – outdoor photographs are so much easier!!). Excusing my appearance, and moving on you can appreciate the Burberry Prorsum shirt. Burberry Prorsum is my favourite label from Burberry – if I could only wear one label for the rest of my life I would choose Burberry Prorsum. This shirt was made in Italy, so was my other Burberry Prorsum shirt.

I cannot say I am a huge fan of cord, but micro cord in this divine camel colour really does it for me in this instance – I could not do full on normal cord; it isn’t me. I really love this shirt though it bridges the gap between smart, and casual perfectly resulting in a great smart casual shirt that can be easily dressed up, or down. I also like how it is rather fitted, and the back central pleat adds to it.

It is the little details that you really appreciate with Burberry Prorsum – I am particularly fond of how the breast pocket has ribbon trim providing a complete textural contrast, and a little luxe hint to the shirt. The buttons are a great colour too, and only add to the shirt.

Have you bought anything lately that you just love?

Amsterdam

So today I actually flew to Amsterdam for the day just because I wanted to see what it is like. The only other time I have been in Amsterdam was when I spent two hours in the airport en route home from America waiting for a connection flight a couple of years ago – so yes as lovely as the airport was it was great to actually see some of the city! It is a scenic cultural city full of character with something to offer for everyone. Here is a little selection of some of the photographs I took today:

Clogs

Canal House Boats

Wooden tulips

Vespa

One of my few complaints about the city is that there is a preposterous amount of fake Burberry large check scarves about – both in stores, and around the necks of the denizens. I wish I got the memo before hand, seeing as it was rather cold I was wrapped up warm in my Burberry check cashmere scarf. For the record fake Burberry; well let me expand that to fake designer goods in general offend me (you are really not fooling anyone). Okay rant over…

Naturally I picked myself up a little treat from duty free. I already restocked up on my current fragrance (Tom Ford Black Orchid) the other week, so I just got myself some L’Occitane ultra rich lip balm to try as keeping my lips hydrated in winter can be a bit of a challenge – I will let you know how I get on with it.

Oh, and I FINALLY got to use my Paul Smith travel folio (it compliments my Paul Smith bags) for my passport, boarding cards, and such. I purchased it a couple of months ago from Harvey Nichols Birmingham, and I have not had chance to use it until now:

So have any of you ever been to Amsterdam? What did you think? Let me know :) .

I am off to bed, I had to get up at 4 am this morning to get to the airport. I suppose it did not help I had two hours sleep either… ;-) .

Seeing Red

Unless you are awfully unobservant I’m sure you will have noticed a delicious selection of red items out there right now. From vivacious shades of claret, the deepest burgundies to rich shades of wine – a hint of the right shade of red instantly updates an outfit. Whether you go for a cheeky hint to give an ordinary outfit a little edge, or go for full effect head to toe tonal red – just go for it!

Lust List

I thought I would share with you my lust list, a list of items I desire. Very few of these items will I actually buy for reasons of cost, or practicality – but half the fun is in the lusting right?

Hardy Amies fur collar peacoat

Hardy Amies fur collar peacoat – £1,300 at Matches

I know I throw the word ‘investment’ around far too generously (it is a great justification word after all) but this dazzling peacoat by Hardy Amies really is an investment piece.

It has black rabbit fur (controversial eek) trim which only adds to the coat giving it a luxurious winter wonderland edge, and a completely different dimension. For a simpler less heavy more Autumn look remove the trim (it’s detachable), and you still have an engagingly classic wool double breasted peacoat with exquisite tailoring.

Marni loose weave mohair blend sweater

Marni loose weave mohair-blend sweater – £320 at Mr Porter

Being an absolute knitwear fiend I am always looking for something a bit different, as it’s easy to fall into the trap or buying similar knits season after season. Despite being a little tired of the whole colour blocking trend by now I love this Marni jumper.

I really like the texture of this loose knit, it looks as it would hang well too. It is a great choice for colder weather, I imagine it would look great paired with my Nudie black jeans. I really like how it gets darker, starting with the caramel, the teal, and then to black. The jumper is made of mohair – which means it should be durable, and have some resistance to creasing which is always a plus.

Burberry Prorsum velvet blazer

Burberry Prorsum velvet blazer – £795 Mr Porter

As featured in one of my previous blog entries. I am absolutely in lust with this velvet blazer. I really really love Burberry Prorsum as a line, it’s Burberry’s most fashion forward range, when it produces pieces like this, how could I not?

This Burberry Prorsum blazer has the perfect to die for sleek trimmed silhouette with peaked lapels that only add to the shape as a whole. The luxe velvet in a mouth watering midnight blue makes me want pull out my debit card in a heart beat. It is an excellent blazer which would make an exemplary piece of evening wear. In lust? Scratch that, I’m in love!

Christian Louboutin leopard print tassel loafers

Christian Louboutin leopard print tassel loafers – £565 at Matches

When it comes to Christian Louboutin men’s shoes people either love them, or hate them. Personally I love his statement edgy shoes. They are your classic shoes, and styles with intense electric twists. There are quite a few pairs of his shoes I am in love with…

This particular pair of loafers very much stand out, and make an impressive statement pair. I love the leopard print on an other wise ordinary loafer. I can see how they are not everyone’s taste, but I am definitely fond of them. The fabulous flash of red on the soles only adds to my infatuation with this pair. I long to frolic along with redsoled shoes (one day!).

Mulberry Elkington bag

Mulberry Elkington brief case – £595 at Mulberry

This classic bag is part of the inspiration that fuelled the iconic Mulberry Alexa. It’s your classic satchel crossed with a brief case. Everyone who reads this blog knows I am a Mulberry boy most definitely, and this bag is probably one of the few items on my ‘lust list’ that I will probably get. We’ll see ;) .

I love Mulberry’s oak natural leather finishing (photo shows it in chocolate as finding a decent picture was nightmare), and this bag really just does it for me. It’s a classic bag that will serve you for years to come. The buckle, and handle give this serious bag a playful twist. It comes with a detachable strap should you choose to wear it across your body, or on your shoulder. I have been eyeing up this bag for a very long time, must try it on in Harvey Nichols, and see if it’s meant to be.

Burberry Brit leather contrast sleeve biker jacket

Burberry Brit leather contrast sleeve biker jacket – £595 at my-wardrobe.com

Leather jackets are instantly associated with sex appeal. There is something about them that just screams, ‘I’m bad ass baby’, and gets away with that ridiculous statement in ALL the right ways.

I have been eyeing up this Burberry jacket for quite a while now. The contrast fabric sleeves, and back only add to this jacket. Everyone needs a leather jacket with attitude in their wardrobe – whether you mix it up and wear it with a shirt underneath for contrast, or throw it on with an old tshirt, and your favourite pair of jeans, it’s definitely a piece worth looking into.

Paul Smith burgundy leopard jacquard scarf

Paul Smith burgundy leopard jacquard scarf – £69 at my-wardrobe.com

When it comes to scarves I really really (got to emphasise those really’s now) cannot help myself. I have lots, and lots of them. I really appreciate a good scarf, they are one of my weaknesses – I have plenty, however there is always room for one more I suppose…

I simply adore this Paul Smith one. The burgundy against the against the black creates an opulent effect. I have a bit of a thing for jacquard, and the leopard oddly works well with this scarf, it doesn’t look too effeminate. I love the thin tassel fringing, and at the price this scarf is an absolute bargain. Who doesn’t need a merino wool, and cashmere treat in their wardrobe?

…hope you enjoyed it. What are you currently lusting after?

Feeling blue

So I have been feeling really blue, and I’m not on about the mood. Long gone are the days of navy boredom, the colour blue is expanding, and having it’s long over due moment. From the chicest shades of cerulean blue, to azure, peacock, teal, and midnight blue in-between – it’s time to add a splash of blue to your wardrobe gentlemen.

Whether you be daring and attempt head to toe blue, or simply use a blue accessory to make your look pop you cannot deny blue is very of the moment. Wear the darkest shades of midnight blue in the richest of luxe materials for full effect glamour. The more velvet, and luxurious sheen the better! Or perhaps colour block with some matte eye catching teal, or cerulean – whatever you do give blue a chance, go on I dare you ;) .

To save you the time I have picked out some of my favourites pieces in delicious shades of blue:

Burberry Prorsum blazer, Tateossian bracelet, and Kurt Geiger loafers

Blazer: Burberry Prorsum – £795
Bracelet: Tateossian Silver Cobra – £165
Shoes: Kurt Geiger Palladian Loafers – £190

Orlebar Brown poloshirt, Brooks Brothers jumper, and Burberry bag

Poloshirt: Orlebar Brown – £95
Jumper: Brooks Brothers – £79
Bag: Burberry – £695

Carrera sunglasses, Hardy Amies bow tie, Lanvin cufflinks

Sunglasses: Carrera – £105
Bow tie: Hardy Amies – £85
Cufflinks: Lanvin – £255

Alexander McQueen scarf, Hermès tie

Scarf: Alexander McQueen – £165
Tie: Hermès – £130

ToyWatch, Anderson's belt

Watch: ToyWatch Plasteramic Fluo – £125
Belt: Anderson’s – £75

…I definitely think those gorgeous Kurt Geiger loafers are finding their way on to my wish list, and hopefully into my wardrobe, and then on to my feet soon afterwards.

The Burberry Trench Coat

The other month I purchased myself a certain treat (there I go using that treat word again), one which I have coveted for a long time. Well I finally took the plunge (another word I seem to abuse).

I am the proud owner of a Burberry trench coat, finally. For ages I was considering getting one, and stroking various ones as I mooched around Selfridges. It was love at first sight! I feel as if I am now a member of an exclusive club, is it customary to wink at fellow Burberry trench coat wearers, or would that be to over the top? (I am kidding, sort of).

Burberry trench coat

I was torn for ages between the Burberry Brit lightweight pack away trench, and the Burberry Brit packable cotton one, in the end I went for the former, as I seem to get hot, and flustered far too easily, and I do not feel the cold, so the lighter things are for me the better really. I would love to be able to wear massive chunky knits, but even in winter I get too hot.

The second dilemma I had was as to which colour to choose. After much debate, and conversing with a friend I went for black. I do love the classic stone, or camel, but it isn’t me. I am more likely to wear black, and on the plus side black is more practical.

Trench coats are a wardrobe staple, and no one is more famous for trench coats than Burberry. Originally meant as a military rain coat (needed in good old Blighty!) they have become so much more than that, and are worn in all weather, and climates by discerning ladies, and gents alike.

Burberry Brit lightweight packaway double breasted trench coat
Back of my Burberry trench coat

I love the style of a trench coat, the epaulettes, the inverted back piece, and the belted waist create what is one of the most iconic coats of all time. The belted waist with D-rings of course must be worn nonchalantly knotted, or tied – never done up because that’s just passé. Oh, and with the Burberry trench the check lining only adds to it!

Burberry trench rain shield

The Burberry trench coat looks great done up, or even better undone for that effortlessly disheveled look. It can be worn with a shirt (in my case a Reiss dress shirt), it can be worn with a jumper, or even a t-shirt. It instantly adds a spot of British class to any outfit. It looks great worn with a scarf too.

What do you think? ;) .
